Using an alternative energy is another good thing to do to save the environment. When it comes to our car, we can help save the environment by using hybrid or solar powered cars. Solar powered cars are now visible almost everywhere and I am glad that India already has it.
I am talking about the solar powered Reva vehicles that allow the Indian Youth Climate Network make their goal to raise the awareness for climate change into an action. The Indian youngsters have taken three electric powered Reva cars and do the adventurous trekking by plowing through 3,500 kilometers of landscape in India. Through the fun activity that they had, they were able to show the world that the solution to fight global warming is available anywhere even in the most remote places.
Using three solar powered Revas, a plant-oil powered truck, a vegetable oil powered van, and a van with solar panels are the ones used by the youngsters in their caravan to tour around 15 major cities of India.
Lithium ion batteries that charges 80 percent for 2.5 hours of charging and 100 percent full charge for 8 hours of charging powers the Revas car for up to 90 miles. It also has installed solar panels that provide about 10 percent of battery life.
With the use of the Revas car, you will be able to save not only on sky rocketing gas prices but the environment as well because solar powered vehicles produces zero carbon emission, thus it does not harm the environment.
Another wonderful eco-car that is now available in India is the Tata car. The maker Tata Motors Limited in India’s tops carmaker. With is recent collaboration with the Thai Government, they were able to produced the eco-friendly car for the Indian nationals to use.
If you are not into those two mentioned car brands, you can always check your local car dealers and ask for their eco-friendly models. This may includes the hybrid cars from Honda or Toyota or others that you wish to patronize. Brand may not be an issue at all, as long as your car will not harm the environment it will be a perfect car to help save the earth.
Nowadays, many of the hybrid cars perform like the normal cars that we previously love. Many of them now have better mileage just like the old gas fueled car and at the same time, allow its users to protect the environment from harm. That is why, if better mileage is your basis when buying your dream car, you can now easily have it in a hybrid car. So why harm the environment when you can save it by using hybrid or as we all it eco-friendly cars at the same performance level as with the gas fueled cars that are the large contributors to green house gases.
With the presence of the eco-cars mentioned, I am sure that India will now be one of the countries that have successfully fight global warming.
I can remember when I was a kid that my mom does not want to load up our fridge in order to save energy. This kind of mindset keeps on dragging for years, not until I have learned that loading up a refrigerator can actually save energy.
Fully loaded refrigerators will not use more energy once the foods get cold. One must keep the cooling section of their refrigerator full and allow some enough room so that the cool air can circulate for an even cooling. The freezer compartment on the other hand should be filled tightly so that the frozen foods can keep each other cold.
If ever you do not have enough food to keep you freezer loaded, it is also advisable to put more ice trays to keep it loaded. Containers of water will also do. It has been proven that when your freezer is fully packed, it has the ability to survive power failure longer as compare to those freezers that has nothing in it, provided, that the doors are kept shut. It is also best to put extra containers of water in your cooling section to minimize the coming in of warm air that needs to be cooled every time you open and shut your fridge’s door.
Aside from those mentioned above there are some other ways to save energy in using your refrigerators and at the same time will keep your refrigerator’s condenser from working beyond their allowable capacity. Let your cooked foods cool down for quite some time first before refrigerating it. In this way, your refrigerator condenser will not be working overtime in cooling down your hot foods. Just make sure that your cooling period in just enough not to allow bacterial growth, for it will ruin your foods. In making ice cubes, it also advisable to avoid using warm or hot water, and one must cover moist food so that your refrigerator will not be wasting energy evaporating those moisture your foods has.
Another way of saving energy in using your refrigerator is to check for the recommended temperatures of 37 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit for your ref’s cooling section and under 5 degrees Fahrenheit for the freezer compartment. Regularly clean your refrigerator’s condenser according to the instructions found in its manual. Always make sure that you have given your ref’s condenser enough room above and behind them in order for the warm air they produce to escape. Also always, make sure that your fridge’s door seals are tight. You can easily check it by placing a bill when the doors are shut and if you can pull your bill; your door seals are not tight enough and will eventually waste some amount of energy. Another way of checking your door seals is to put a piece of spoon or fork on the rubber seal and if it holds your utensils, then your door seals are tight.
The most important thing of all, do not keep on opening your refrigerator’s doors. Place several item together at a time and it will save you energy.
The call to save Mother earth and preserve the ecological balance has been rising in huge proportions, especially now that we are facing extreme global warming and the possibility of climate change.
The good thing is that a lot has answered, ranging from the private individual to the mega corporations. Among these mega corporations doing their share of saving the environment are the telecommunications and mobile phone companies.
More than just plant trees by the roadways or teaching people on how to manage and segregate their wastes, these corporations attempt to help in ecological preservation through things they excel at – mobile phones.
The mobile phone is already an integrated part of the modern individual, a device that has evolved from a mere phone into an essential part of human communications. Simply put, the modern person most likely possesses a mobile phone for obvious reasons.
But that being said, most mobile phones are made of materials that contain chemicals that are harmful to the land such as cadmium, nickel, and lithion. And every day, tons of mobile phones and cellular batteries have been clogging the landfill all over the world, adding to mass of human junk we make every single passing day.
Granted, mobile phone companies are not tree huggers. But with the current state our environment is facing, it is nice to know that these communications giants are fusing modern communications technology and environmental awareness with their lines of eco friendly cellular phones.
Samsung, the South Korea-based mobile phone manufacturer, has been consistent in launching pro-environment mobile phones. The still-in-the-works Samsung Blue Earth is slated to be made of recycled water bottles and is powered by the sun. While this phone is still in the drawing board, the Samsung Blue Earth is nearing its completion and will be available later in 2009.
Another environment friendly Samsung mobile that is already out in the market is the Samsung E1107. Powered by a solar panel in the back, the Samsung E1107 eliminates the need for conventional cell phone batteries.
Sony Ericsson, another mobile phone titan, also chips in its share of eco-friendly mobile phones – the Sony Ericsson Green Heart. Though there is still no news when the phone will be made available to the public, the news is that the Green Heart’s chassis is made of biodegradable materials and the keypad is molded from recycled plastic.
Nokia also joins the pro-environment mobile phones race with the two concept phones currently in the designs phase. One is powered by solar energy while the other phone will utilize radio waves frequency. It is slated that such energy are more efficient than solar power, but current prototypes are still to deliver such claim.
Another good thing is that electronics companies all over the world are also bent on easing the world from further environmental damage with solar chargers and other alterative and unconventional power sources for mobile phones, such as chargers with hand crank-mechanism.
If the trend should pick up and generate enough following, then there is a big chance we will be using environment friendly phones in the near future.
